If you’ve decided to take the next step, we’ll meet in person to learn more about you and let you know more about the process of changing a child or young person’s life.

This process often takes around 3-4 months, and involves the whole family. This process includes some essential checks (DBS, health, family checks) to ensure all of our foster families are safe and reliable for our children and young people.

There’s a lot involved in becoming a foster carer, and this is the final step which determines if you’re approved to become a fostering family for a child or young person.

If you’re approved, we’ll provide you with a Skills to Foster course and make sure you’re appropriately trained and skilled before a child or young person is placed with you. We’ll answer any questions or concerns you have, and take you through the process, before eventually introducing you to a child or young person we think you could best support, and who you would like to foster.
